Personally I feel that there's no such thing as 2 many felines unless you are unable to care for/ feed them. =^♡^=

So it's not your cat, and your mom really doesn't want a cat? I don't think she's in the wrong here. Cats are more independant, but they still have many needs, and your mom would have to pay for food, for vet visits, all kinds of things. And then she'd have to share a space with something she never wanted. If you can't compromise, if she's truly unwilling, then I would let it go. You can always get a cat when you're older, and you can visit friends or family who have cats in the meantime.
