Is owning a pet the same thing as slavery?
I feel sometimes that it is wrong for me to control my dogs every move. To keep him hostage tied to a rope and only allow him to go outside when I say so and being controlled by me. We take ownership of animals and make them work for us, only allow them to do what we say when we say so. We take their young away from them and sell them or worse. We control how they look, what they eat, even where they poop!! I fear that is why god has not came back. We went power hungry and instead of taking care and nourishing what he gave us we had to dominate it and control everything. So much that we went as far as controlling our own kind. Took ownership of humans and made them slaves. We seen how wrong that was so how is it we don't see it being wrong of us to control everything else living?! We should learn to live as god said in the bible. Treat all of his creations as equal!! And I am NOT a religious person. Hell I don't even go to church!! Am I the only one who feels that we was taught wrong?! That if only we opened our eyes we would see just how wrongly we have learned. Maybe that is why we can't seem to be happy anymore. We just are not doing it right!! A few years ago I had ants taking over my kitchen so I purchased and put out ant poison. It worked for about a week then suddenly the ants wouldn't eat it anymore. I thought it amazing they figured out what was killing them and stopped eating it so fast when us humans took a lot longer to figure out the plague. Then last year I put out mouse traps and in the middle of the night I heard one snap. At first I was happy I had caught the little basterd and I just went back to sleep. Later I heard the mouse screaming. I tried to ignore it but finally got a flashlight and looked. The trap had snapped on his legs and he was still alive and then I noticed it wasn't it that was screaming but another mouse that was trying to free the trapped one!! It was screaming for its trapped friend!! ... read more

You're hyperempathetic, which is valid, but you're overthinking this. Many pets wouldn't be able to survive in the wild, so at this point it's not relevant to the conversation, they need homes and families to thrive. Also, most working animals love their jobs, if they didn't, they wouldn't have made it through training. If you are worried about owning pets, choose to get pets from shelters and rescues, so that you aren't putting money toward breeders. You can also get catch and release traps for pest animals like mice, so that you don't have to kill them.
