I mean im used to using they/them my whole life when i cant tell someones gender just to not accidentally insult someone 😅 what I think is ridiculous is getting mad if someone doesnt use them. Ive gotten called sir a few times when ive been dressed a certain way and the person making the mistake seemed more bothered than me. I think when you are secure with how you see yourself it doesnt matter as much as long as its not meant maliciously.

They is used to describe a single person even without it being someone's preferred pronouns. Say someone asks you "Where's John?" Some people would say "they went to the store" just because it's how they talk 🤷‍♀️

In some sentences it can be confusing but that goes for all pronouns honestly (for example, talking about two men and using 'he/him' without clarifying which guy you meant). Just use the person's name if you want to avoid confusion.
