I actually read in a book about autism and relationships (Yes I have autism) that the best way to figure out an appropriate age is to take your own age, divided in half, then add 7 years. That's how young you can date appropriately

Just so long as both people are well into adulthood. Because a lot of changes happen from ages 18-20 and even more can happen as you continue to grow into yourself as an adult. I find it odd how people can date someone younger than them by a lot because if they are 18 they are fresh out of high school and if your say 28 you've could have graduated have a stable job you've been an adult for a lot longer than they have when they were still in middle school you've been an adult and there is a imbalance in power if you want believe it or not.

Half plus 7 rule: half the age of the older person plus seven more years. Age gaps are much more pronounced when you're young, and a 16 and 18 year old is different than a 30 and 32 year old. The age gap when you're young is more likely to fuck you up, so generally sticking in grade level and maybe adjacent years is the best bet. After that, it'll impact stuff, but it won't ruin your brain functions like grooming can.
