Height standard for (F) Weight for (M) double standard.. Why?
Why can women request height preference publicly, but men are looked down upon/labeled? You can't co ntrol height, but weight can be changed with hard work. Am I wrong for my line of thinking? ... read more

I'm confused by the question. Are you asking why women can do something that men can't do, or why asking about height is allowed but asking about weight isn't?

@LordHavoc That's a healthy outlook and mindset you have on the topic. That's the difference of our opinions on the topic. I see it different with my experience. I think it does relate to gender in terms of how society judges. While, I respect part of your choice, and also will let people live their life in what weight they desire. Weight can be both unhealthy on both ends of the spectrum. Being too skinny lacking sufficient nutrients is unhealthy. Being too large puts strain on internal organs. Diffiencies can occur with both of these differing parties. Long story short people will have preferences. One should not be deemed disrespectful if they choose a partner who is healthy based on weight. Should be done in a polite manner without being judged for their preference. I see men getting berated with this stance, when a woman won't consider a man who's shorter than say 6'2. These are just opinions, and I can't speak for everyone obviously. That's why I created the poll though.

@peachesplease I was pretty sure you meant that, I was just thrown off by the double standard part because I don't think this relates to gender at all. I don't think most people would judge a man or a woman for asking someone's height, and I think both might be equally likely to be judged for asking a person's weight. Perhaps the reason it's more offensive is *because* weight is generally more controllable, so if they are unhappy with their weight, they may feel bad about themselves for not taking better care of it. (Even though being skinny doesn't by nature actually mean that you take better care of yourself. Take me, I'm skinny and I'm a mess.)

Regardless of whether you talk with this guy face to face or over the Internet, it's probably a joke they keep running with because they think it's funny. If you communicate with them that you don't find the joke funny anymore or never did in the first place, I'm sure they'll refrain from it, being your best friend and all. If not, maybe consider the value you have in considerate people and decide what to do from there.
