It seems pretty obvious to me? Desire plays a part, but sometimes what you want and what you should do are different things. Sometimes they are the same thing tho, so that's why I don't think only desire. What you should do is what is the most positive outcome for everyone involved. This seems pretty general, but it is very context dependent, which is why it's hard to be specific. Humans are society based. So doing everything by what benefits solely you isn't going to get you anywhere. Likewise, doing what benefits only everyone else could possibly hurt you. So what you should do is think through the options and choose the one that has the most gain and the least amount of loss. This could mean you or someone must make sacrifices because maybe those sacrifices are less than the level of sacrifices that would be required otherwise, and the benefits far outweigh the sacrifices. This is just an example though, and the options may or may not have any sacrifices. Some options may be whether what has more gains. Again, it's context dependent. What you "should" do is also therefore dependent upon the society and environment in which you live, because the beliefs, values, and morals of you and your surrounding community will likely shape how you view what is a "gain" and what is a "loss"... On the other hand, what you WANT to do is purely based on selfish desire. Even if what you want benefits others, it is inherently selfish because it is what YOU want. Even if you say "I want to give everything I have to someone else" ... It isn't necessarily a selfless act like it seems it is, because "I want" indicates your desire, and a desire is a gain. A want can benefit others or it can only benefit you, but no matter what, it is determined by YOUR desires only. So it isn't black and white, because they can be the same, similar, or different. It's heavily case by case. But in the end, the idea of "should" and "want is MORE than simply desire, though that's part of it.
