First decide what you want to become take time till end of this year and search for all possible career with your stream and narrow down them which way you need to crack it(I mean iitor nit or bits, etc). And coming to college's let me make this clear nothing you are going to get over a private college's apart from placements in some fancy organization in iit/nit and some extra financial crunch to your parents (fees of an iit institute is humongous). But coming to a positive light you have clubs in iit's where you can show your talents like singing or dance or any artistic things which you don't find in any private college's and that's it. So, that what a major difference you are going to see in engineering institutes so i would suggest you to please explore other things in life as well where you have something new to see in life and not be a person caught in a rat race
